Guinea is located in the Western Africa at the coast of the Atlantic Ocean washing the 300-kilometer strongly cut up coastline. The area — 245,8 thousand sq.km. The plateau Fouta Djallon is called by geographers "a water tower of the Western Africa" since the largest rivers of the region — Gambia and Senegal here begin. On the North Guinean height the river Niger (here called Dzholiba) originates also. The numerous rivers of Guinea are, as a rule, non-navigable because of numerous thresholds and falls, and also because of sharp fluctuations of a water level.

To the traveler bright red or red-brown color of soils of savannas and the woods of Guinea rich with oxides of iron is evident. Despite the poverty of these soils complicating agriculture, the natural vegetation is very rich. Along the rivers gallery damp rainforests though in the majority of other places they as a result of activity of the person are replaced with dry rainforests and woody savannas still remained. In the north of the country it is possible to see the real vysokotravny savannas, and on the oceanic coast — mangry. Practically all population of Guinea belongs to negroid race. The most numerous people is fulbe, Fouta Djallon occupying in the main plateau. Other people belong to a language subgroup mende: to malinka, korako, to Sousse. Official language, French, only small part of the population owns, and languages ful, to a malinka, Sousse are most widespread. 60% of the population — the Muslims, about 2% — Christians, the others adhere to traditional beliefs. The majority of the population is occupied in agriculture (cattle breeding, and also cultivation of rice, a cassava, sweet potato, corn). The capital and the largest city of Guinea — Conakry (1,8 million inhabitants). Other large cities — industrial centers and the transport Cancan, kandia, Laba hubs.
