Gambia — the state in the Western Africa, the area of 11,3 thousand sq.km. From the West it is washed by the Atlantic Ocean, and to the East from the coast, along a river Gambia valley, a narrow strip (30–50 km) crashes on 350 km deep into the continent. Overland border has only with Senegal, being actually an enclave in the territory of this state. In the recent past Gambia was a colony of Great Britain, nowadays — the presidential republic. State language — English.

The territory of Gambia — the flat low plain only in places recovered by low hills, and on the coast — groups of rocks and dunes. Climate equatorial monsoonal, with rainy summer (June-October) and dry winter (November-May) seasons. Average monthly air temperatures fluctuate from 23 to 27 °C. Precipitation drops out on the coast to 1500 mm, far from it — 750–1000 mm.

River Gambia.

The most part of the country is covered with the vysokotravny savanna with a rigid elephant grass, in a valley of the river of Gambia so-called gallery evergreen rainforests, in the mouth of the river and on the coast of an ebb-tide zone — mangrove vegetation in places remained. The majority of large animals were destroyed by the person, only in the deafest places of reserves on the river it is possible to meet hippopotamuses and crocodiles, and in savannas antelopes, boars, jackals, hyenas meet. Here and there in the woods monkeys remained also. But snakes and lizards are various, birds more than 400 types are.

The main population of Gambia — farmers мандиго, a diol, a serer, the cattle breeding people фульбе, engaged in crafts сараколе. The most part of the population practises Islam though many at the same time keep commitment to traditional African beliefs (especially a diol, мандиго). Total number of the population — 1,6 million people. The only rather large capital city of the country Banjul (36 thousand people), located on the coast in the river Gambia mouth.
